not for beginners! -
When I got my first sewing machine, I bought this book and the Complete Book of Sewing to help me learn how to sew. Naturally, every time I begin a new project, I consult one book and then the other hoping that what one doesn't teach me the other will. I always end up on the internet trying to figure out sewing terms I don't understand, and confusing pictures that don't fully explain to me what to do.
These books probably make sense to people who have had a bit of experience sewing, but being completely green at sewing I have found more help in reading the instruction manual for my sewing machine and searching on the internet than in these two books.

Patternless Projects - Perfect -
I am not stupid, but I have a real problem with sewing patterns. Even the ones labeled 'EASY!' seem completely random -- like sewing is all some sort of inside joke, and I'm not in on it.

But the "patternless projects" in this sewing book make sense to me. The steps are given in an logical sequence, with lots of drawings so that you can see what is being described. Good for visual learners!

Even better, you can make adjustments so that your future projects are perfectly tailored just to you.

The rest of the book is a good reference. The many drawings and simple descriptions are very helpful. This book sits right next to my sewing matchine.

I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in sewing as a hobby.

Great Reference -
I am a self taught seamstress and I love this book to use as a reference manual. It is comprehensive but easy to understand. This book would be good for a beginner Great Book.
